At the 757th week of protest against enforced disappearances in state forces’ custody, the initiative of the Saturday Mothers in Istanbul focused on the fate of Hüseyin Morsümbül today. The high school student disappeared on September 18, 1980 after his arrest by state forces.

Turkey: 31 women murdered in July, 245 in the first 7 months

The ‘Stop Femicide Platform’ regularly researches women’s murders in Turkey. According to the most recent report presented by the Platform, 31 women were murdered in Turkey in the month of July. Of these, 16 were shot dead with firearm, 5 stabbed, 1 strangled and 3 beaten to death. While a woman fell to death from high “in a suspicious way”, the cause of death is unclear in the cases of 5 women.

62-year-old Peace Mother prisoner not admitted to hospital

Jailed 62-year-old Peace Mother Mevlüde Başdaş (who has a 86% disability) was suspected of suffering from tuberculosis as she was vomiting blood and was taken to hospital from Şakran Women’s Prison. Yet doctors sent Başdaş back to prison saying there was no space in the hospital.

Report on women and state commissioner in local governments

After 40 years of war, in spite of the intense efforts by Kurdish popular leader Mr. Öcalan to achieve a lasting peace through democratic negotiation methods, AKP government declared war on 30 October 2014, with the scope of their plan called “forced collapse.” Against this war, the local people went on to struggle to protect their existence. In this period, many cities and villages –including Şırnak, Cizre, Silopi, Sur, Nusaybin, Yüksekova and İdil– were destroyed by heavy artillery and an estimation of 2360 people, including 368 unarmed residents lost their lives. Over 400,000 people have been displaced during the process.
