The Freedom for Ill Prisoners Initiative organized a press conference at the Human Rights Association (IHD) Ankara Branch to draw attention to the condition of ill prisoners.
The meeting talked about the situation of 14 seriously ill prisoners.
Nuray Çevirmen, member of the IHD Central Executive Board (MYK), read the statement complying with the coronavirus (Kovid-19) measures which prohibits conference and meetings.
Çevirmen gave information about 14 prisoners, who the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) said “cannot stay in prison” but were not released.
The prisoners in serious condition and for whom release has been recommended are: Ahmet Sılık, Deniz Yıldırım, İsmail Yılmaz, Sabri Kaya, Medeni Tarlan, Dicle Bozan, Hasan Alkış, Ergin Aktaş, Abdullah Turan, Serdal Yıldırım, İdris Başaran, Kazım Avcı, Mehmet Emin Özkan and Sıddık Güler.
Nuray Çevirmen added: “The situation of these seriously ill prisoners, unfortunately represents only a small part of the picture. Hundreds of prisoners are struggling to survive in prison.
Hundreds of prisoners, such as those mentioned, have been discriminated by the new law of execution and the Anti-Terror Law (TMK).”
